Opal "Ruth" Johnson Whitcomb

Opal "Ruth" Whitcomb, 75, went to be with her Lord and Savior on May 6, 2022 after a valiant battle with cancer.  Born December 7, 1946, in Walsh, Colorado, Ruth was the seventh of nine children.

She spent her childhood and younger years traveling the country.  She met and married the love of her life, Leroy Whitcomb in 1972 and they eventually settled in Montana.

Ruth worked as a CNA for many years at Discovery Care Centre.  Ruth was devoted to the Lord and was very active at her church, teaching Sunday school and many different ministries. "One thing I have desired of the LORD, that I will seek after; that I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the LORD, and to enquire in his temple." (Psalm 27:4).

Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, Leonard and Opal Johnson, her siblings – June Readus, Leonard "Bud" Johnson, Robert "Bob" Johnson, Cora Gould, Faye Price, Bruce Markum, her son Jerry Fowler, and her husband Leroy Whitcomb.

She is survived by her sons Kenneth Fowler (Wanda), David Whitcomb (Elaine Serwacki), her siblings Anne Powell and Roger Johnson, her grandson Derek Fowler, her granddaughters Christy Barnum, Anna Hoffman, Rachel Langston, 5 great-grand daughters, 1 great-grandson, numerous nieces and nephews, and her longtime companion, Gene Rotondo.

The Memorial Service will be held Thursday, May 12, 2022, at 1pm at Big Sky Baptist Church with a reception to follow at the church at 2pm.  Private family urn placement will take place at a later date.  In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Big Sky Baptist Church in Ruth's memory.
