Obituary

Mina (Midge) Bergman, loving mother, grandmother, and great grandmother passed away on April 8, 2026, surrounded by her family.

Midge deeply loved all her family. She nurtured her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, along with many relatives and friends. Throughout her long life, Midge enjoyed camping, skiing, sewing, quilting, and playing cards. Midge and her family made many, memorable trips around Montana, throughout the United States, north to Alaska, and visiting family in Hawaii. She always welcomed friends to join along the adventures, family celebrations, ski trips, camping trips, and celebrations. She was a mother and mentor to many in her wide circle. Her friends and family adored Midge.

Born on the ranch in Craig, Montana on a wintery day, February 4, 1932, Midge was the youngest of six children of John and Ruth Nahrgang. Midge was the darling of the family, making friends with her nieces and nephews close to her age and who often visited the ranch. Midge had a childhood full of ranch life: milking cows with her Dad, riding horses, and helping with gardens and harvesting time. This is where she honed her life long, "homestead grit". She attended Craig grade school and graduated from Cascade High School in 1950. Midge graduated beauty school and then enlisted in the Women's Army Corps (WAC). She was assigned to Cryptography School in Georgia, Texas and proudly served for 18 months.

In 1952, Midge married her high school sweetheart, James (Jim) D. Bergman. Jim and Midge moved to Bozeman to attend Montana State University (MSU). Midge completed two years of college before they began their family. Parenting seven children and managing a loving household became Midges first and most important career. She always put her family first throughout her life. The family moved to Great Falls in 1962 and Midge prided herself on sewing, cooking big meals, feeding the neighbor kids, baking, and keeping up with family get togethers. Midge was also an active member of the Women's Home Demonstration group, Toastmistress group.  As her children grew,  Midge was active in their many activities, Scouts, Campfire and baseball teams. She enjoyed camping with her family, and had fond memories of Holland Lake, Holter Lake, Gibson Dam, and other special places in Montana.

During her years in Great Falls, Midge  worked at Great Falls Deaconess Nursing Home as the Activities Director for thirteen years. After Midge and Jim retired, they traveled far and wide by motor home with friends and family and after of few years, settled in Bozeman for the next three decades.

Midge was a huge MSU Bobcat fan. Wherever the Bobcats were playing, she enjoyed cheering them on and knew her favorite players!  Midge also worked part time at the MSU Bookstore and was a familiar face at the Bozeman Senior Center's weaving circle. Midge cherished her many good friends in Bozeman.  She also enjoyed quilting and making many lovely quilts for family and friends. Midge was also an avid card player and taught all her children and grandchildren to play cards, often saying, "when I am playing cards, I am not your grandmother" as she usually won.

In 2014, Midge reluctantly moved to Missoula (home of the Griz) so she and Jim could be closer to family. Her bright blue 'Bobcat car' covered in MSU signage was consider an eyesore in Griz country!

Midge made good friends at Village Senior Residence where she resided until her death. She enjoyed the exercise classes, music, and special celebrations with family,  and all who came to visit. She was dearly loved by many.

Proceeding her in death: her husband of 63 yrs, James Bergman, infant son, Bruce Bergman, son, Steve Bergman (Alaska), and grandsons, Brett Bergman and Andrew Massett.
