Arlee - Mary E. Walker, 93, passed away surrounded by her family on March 15, 2018, at St. Patrick Hospital of a ruptured aorta. Mary was born in Helena, MT to Charles and Molly Sanders on April 6th 1924. The family later moved to St. Ignatius MT, where she graduated from high school. She married Al Walker on May 7, 1944. They moved to Arlee in 1946 and built a home on their 80 acres, where they raised their 3 children. Mary lived in her home until her death.
Besides being a homemaker and helping on the farm, Mary worked at the DeMers Mercantile and the Farmers Union Oil Co. in Arlee. She also drove to Missoula to work at the Western Montana Co-op and then Western Federal Savings and Loan from which she retired as head teller of the Southside branch September 1985.
After retiring, she and Al enjoyed golfing for many years. She also enjoyed birthday luncheons and playing cards with her friends and spending time with family. Her family was very dear to her and she once stated that her longevity was due to her loving family. Mary was a very loving, giving, and thoughtful person.
She was preceded in death by her parents, brother Lester, sister Dorothy. And her husband Al. She is survived by her children, Evelyn Partaker, Dan Walker (Deb) and Helen LeClair; grandchildren Clint, Wendy, Julie, Denise and Tiffany; six great-grandchildren and numerous extended family members.
There will be a celebration of her life on Friday, April 6th in Arlee. The time and location will be announced in the Missoulian closer to April 6th.
