Obituary

Douglas Allan Howey, 78, passed away peacefully on March 17, 2026, after a brief battle
with Stage 4 lung cancer. A man with a wry sense of humor and spirit, Doug spent his
final days at home surrounded by the family he loved, exactly as he wanted it.
Doug is now reunited with his beloved wife, Marsha, who preceded him in death in
2011.
Born to Jesse and Madeline in Missoula, Doug spent much of his life in the Garden City.
After graduating from Missoula County High School, Doug proudly served his country in
the Navy aboard the USS Whippoorwill. He built his career working for Gibson's
department store and later American Dental. After American Dental was closed, he was
one of the founding owners of American Eagle Instruments.
A true sportsman at heart, Doug was rarely seen without a team hat or a plan for his
next game. Whether he was aiming for a strike at Westside or chasing the perfect drive
at King Ranch, he lived for the friendly competition and the camaraderie of the game.
His autumn Saturdays were reserved for Montana Grizzly football, and on Sundays, his
loyalty never wavered from the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Doug is survived by his daughter Deena Carpenter, her husband, John, and his
grandchildren Cassidy and Conor, of East Helena.
The family extends their deepest gratitude to personal friends Yvonne Paul and Becky
Wiedrich for their exceptional love, presence, and support during the final days of
Doug's illness. Per his wishes, no funeral services will be held.
